What Should Masters to Know?
To find out that wetness is occurred in cat’s ear possible by means of accompanying symptoms. Usually, it is a shaking of the head, during which squashy sounds are heard. It can be noticed black or brown discharges (reminiscent of wet ground ) upon closer examination of ear canal. Also an unpleasant odor, redness and a lot of little wounds (scratching traces) may be present. All that mentioned above may indicate the development of the following pathologies:
- Allergic reaction. It presents in various animals in a different way. It depends on allergen source. Alimentary allergy frequently find out in the majority of cases in cats, which appear as wet ears inside, dirty discharge with an unpleasant odor, redness of the skin, tearing, swelling and severe itching. Severe allergies can lead to hair loss and the occurrence of large weeping wounds on the skin. Elite breed masters are usually faced with food allergies, the appearance of an allergenic product in cat’s diet can provoke a strong reaction. Out-bred cats can easily tolerate even the most acute forms of food allergies. In cases with food allergies, the problem is solved by means of changing the feed and symptomatic treatment of the existing manifestations (anti-inflammatory drops in the eyes and ears). In the most scenarios, redness and discharge disappear during several days after excluding potential allergen. It is more difficult with cases of atopic dermatitis, in which the elimination of a potential allergen can be an impossible task, as it can be house dust or the coat of other animals.
- Ear mite. Because of it cat my suffer from terrible itching and wetness in ears. An appearance of wounds behind ears and restless behavior may indicate that the pet has severe discomfort. Also a characteristic symptom is squashy sound during head shaking in animal. The tick itself can be picked up without even leaving the house. It is enough to contact with things where the parasite may be present – bedding, carrying, things or toys with which another infected animal came into a contact. To indicate the presence of an ear tick is possible only by microscopic determination of pieces of skin taken inside the auricle. The treatment is not considered difficult, processing the animal with special drops and using shampoo while swimming almost always bring a positive result.
- Purulent otitis. If wet only inside one ear it could be this disease. It may be caused by a foreign body entering the ear canal or by a tumor process. Typical symptoms are moist inside the ear, offensive odor, dirty discharge. The extraneous body can be twigs, grains and other substances that enter the ear canal while climbing trees or tall grass. In some cases, it is possible to extract a foreign body on its own. Usually these are twigs or slivers that stick into the skin and can be pulled out with tweezers. Things are more complicated with plant seeds and other substances that fall deep into the ear canal. Here you can’t do without the help of a veterinarian, as you will need to use an otoscope and use special exciting tools. If there is a risk of the tumor process, then cytological and histological determinations are also indicated. Otitis caused by oncology is very similar in its course to otitis caused by the ingestion of a foreign body into the ear.
To summarize, in almost all cases a cat has wet in the ears due to the development of an inflammatory process – otitis media, which can be caused by an allergic reaction or the development of a tumor. Early indication of any type of otitis media is the key to successful treatment and a speedy recovery of the pet.
