Sometimes you can observe the presence of hair and spots on the cat’s chin. Owners are usually not alarmed by it, as the animal is typically not bothered by that – it does not cause any visible discomfort. This attitude to the pet is not right, as these symptoms are those of the disease known as acne. Improper skin care and treatment is fraught with the development of furunculosis.

What is Acne?

Black spots on cat’s chin are acne, a skin disease characterized by inflammation of the sebaceous glands and the emergence of the black specks on the chin of an animal. The main factors of its occurrence are:

  • stress;
  • improper care;
  • primary diseases of the skin;
  • congenital abnormality of genesis of the sebaceous glands;
  • an anomaly in the genesis of hair follicles;
  • low immunity;

It should be noted that there are no exact causes of the disease, and this is an approximate list of factors.

The Development of the Disease

It is believed that the disease develops due to improper metabolic processes in the skin, the formation of fats, amino acids, keratin. These components give the skin strength and elasticity. In the healthy body the upper layer of the skin is replaced by younger cells. In cases of pathological processes the separation does not occur. Old, dead cells are mixed with new ones, forming spots. The development of the pathology does not depend on the sex of the animal, its breed and age. The first appearance of black specks on cat’s chin is not dangerous and does not bring any discomfort, but there are a number of chronic cases of the disease, with possible complications such as a secondary infection.

The Symptoms of the Appearance of Black Patches on Cat’s Chin

The most pronounced symptom is reddening of the skin. Then there appear small patches called comedones, they have the form of a cone and gradually increase in size. The tops of cones can be black or white. They are white when the tube is deep inside and there is no access to the air. The heap of comedones looks like flakes of dirt on the hair of the animal. Usually a cat’s owner thinks it’s dirt similar to earth. Then the bottom lip is swelling. In cases of advanced or severe form, in the affected area there appear pustules, skin nodes. There is pain, itching skin. A cat is nervous, it exercises aggression and scratches the chin area. It also loses its hair.

Diagnosis

To make the diagnosis on your own is not possible. The exact clinical presentation will be made by the vet at the clinic. After visual examination, the doctor administers laboratory tests. On making the diagnosis, the vet will prescribe the necessary treatment.

Treatment

The treatment is complex and includes local treatment, oral ingestion, injections, and a diet. Local treatment comprises:

  1. tar soap;
  2. special shampoo for seborrhea;
  3. tar shampoo;
  4. antiseptic solutions – chlorhexidine, miramistin;
  5. cotton-gauze bandage with the tincture of calendula;
  6. percutaneous.

Antibiotics are prescribed for secondary infection. Severe inflammation is treated by using a course of corticosteroids. It is necessary to include vitamin supplements in the form of Omega-3 and Omega-6. Keep the animal on a low-fat diet.

Remember!
Additionally, you can use a solution of hlorofillipt or clotrimazole. Apply it exactly to the spots. After processing spots by the above-mentioned solutions, apply sulphur ointment.

Treatment at home requires the execution of certain rules of precaution. On no account must you squeeze pimples – they must undergo a process of maturation and opening on their own. It is not recommended combing the affected area. In any case, you are to consult a vet before applying any measures, otherwise there may occur complications.

Preventive Measures

The complex of preventive measures includes several requirements available to everyone. It is unacceptable to use plastic utensils for feeding an animal. Many pets are sensitive to chemicals that can cause allergies and, as a consequence, acne. Over time, the plastic is covered with scratches, forming a favorable environment for pathogens. You need to keep dishes of your pet clean. Otherwise, there is a risk of infections. Water for your cat should be changed at least once or twice a day. Water should be clean, fresh, and filtered. Since the area of the chin is not available for the cat to lick it, you should wipe it after each feeding.

Note!
Animals that suffered from a single case of the disease acne are prone to its recurrence, so the risk area should be treated with antiseptic solutions after each meal.

You should also prevent the weakening of the body of a cat. Use the balanced nutrition, full of nutrients and rich in vitamins, minerals, fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6.
